BA8 - some visual character development

I haven't really posted up any of my work recently so here's just a quick run down of the visual development of my characters.  I have redesigned and completed Rose, Dodger and the Judge but i am still designing and debating about the Man and his story.  So for now, here are the 3 characters i have completed.


For Rose and Dodger, i have changed their design almost entirely by following a different route in the games style.  The Judge is the only character that has remained the same.


Rose

Here, Rose has completely changed; even looking slightly older than originally intended.  The game isn't set in the 1940's any more, so her dress and style have changed to look more modern.  In keeping with the theme of flowers and her name, she now has more red and warm colours in her design - red/ginger hair, red cheeks and red dress.  With alluding to the relation between her name and flowers, i didn't want to make her design too literal.  I thought that i could give her a dress made out of flowers, maybe roses to be more precise. Instead, in her dress design i tried to mimic the shape of flower petals at the hem of the dress.  I wanted to mimic the delicate waves and ripples rose petals have, but again not be too literal.  Her dress isn't as conservative as the previous design idea.  This reflects Rose's creative and free spirit much better, whilst the dress still being age appropriate.

Dodger

Dodger is still very much a rabbit as decided on in BA7.  But his physical appearance has changed due to the changing of the breed of rabbit he is based off of.  In his last design, he was a simple white rabbit who wore a brown backpack.  I wanted Dodger to be white to symbolise a guiding light to follow for the player, as well as make reference to 'Alice in Wonderland'; Rose finds herself in an alternate reality just as Alice does.  But now, Dodger isn't a little white rabbit.  Instead, his design in based off of a breed called Belgian Hares.  The Belgian Hare is like a mix between a hare and a rabbit.  They have long powerful legs like a hare, but big soft eyes like a rabbit.  They are bigger than rabbits and they have a gorgeous reddish-brown coat.  I thought that the physical mix of a rabbit and a hare would be more visually interesting and different to any other.  Because Dodger was Rose's toy made real by the Judge in the Dream World, i think his physical appearance and colouring look more like toys/teddy bears design.  His back pack is similar in design, only its now a pink/dusty rose shade instead of brown.

The Judge

The Judge has remained the same since his initial design progression in BA7.  I really liked the strong graphic contrast to Rose and Dodger with his abnormal disproportionate body.  He is a God and should have a visually stark contrast to Rose and Dodger.
