External Project

Here are images of the projection for Illustration. It is meant to look rough, this is only for a general idea of what the projection would look like in terms of context and theme.  The main background fades on and is a clear night sky with starts and the milky way.  And then gold fish in helmets swim on.  The whole thing gets sucked into a vortex that is the door which then starts to fill up with water and more goldfish swim about while the text containing information about the course is displayed.

External Project

So our group now known as L.E.D.D (Lee, Elie, Dom, David [you can probably guess who made that up!]) had another meeting and we finalised our ideas and allocated some roles in the group.  Our idea is to showcase all of the NUCA courses each having a description and some sort of related animation e.g. for Fashion the building would turn into cloth and would be sewn together with a needle and thread whilst having information about the course.  We have split up the courses for us to design.  I am designing Fine Art, Graphic Communication and Illustration.  I am still thinking about ideas for each one as to how to design them but i will put up posts on how they are all coming along.

External Project

So we have been given a new project until we break up for the holidays.  We have been shown some videos of projection mapping on buildings ( links below) some of which are amazing and so well thought out and executed.  After seeing them we were told we had to design a projection to be used on one of the NUCA buildings promoting NUCA and its courses and that we had to try and make it interactive in some way for an audience.  We are allowed to be in teams and in the end we have to pitch our ideas to the class.  I am working with Dom, David and Lee; i have worked with Dom and Lee before and i enjoyed working with them! Lets hope this projects goes well too!

Points to keep in mind for his project are:
  • to promote NUCA and its courses
  • to creatively use the buildings architecture to enhance the effectiveness of the projection
  • to make it somehow interactive for an audience
We have had a group meeting and we have taken some day time pictures of possible choices for the building we are going to use to put the projection on.  We then took some night time photos and are currently deciding which building we like the best to use for this project.  We ran thorugh some ideas but decided not to settle on anything untill we have decided on a building to use.  We also thought about how to make it interactive.  I suggested that we make a flash game projected onto the building where behind windows there would be different animations and you could interact with them via an iPad e.g. behind one window could be giant flowers and you touch the flowers on the iPad to make them bloom.  Dom wasn't sold on this idea so we are still thinking of new ideas.

BA1 - CONCEPT

Life energy concepts! not amazing but they are fairly simple things.

BA1 - RESEARCH

Here are some images of games that give an idea of that my game is going to look like.  The first is an app for the iPad called Metal Storm.  Mine isnt a shooter type game but the way you navigate and the way its set out is similar to mine.  The other is Flower with its easy going beautiful and tranquil gameplay and experience.

BA1 - RESEARCH

I went to the Apple shop here in Norwich to do some research.  I don't own an iPad so i wanted to pick up and use one and play with one so i had a better understanding of the handling when you play games.  When using the iPad i saw that they had a game called Metal Storm where the gameplay is similar to mine.  So i played it for a while and found that it was a great help.   I then got my friend to play it and to tell me what the positive features were with that type game that i should keep in mind for my game.  She said she quickly understood how to play the game and what the objective was without looking at the help/instructions and it had the "pick up and play" idea where if she wanted to kill time this would be ideal for that.  The bad points were that it got bring doing the same thing over and over again.

BA1 - DIGITAL CONCEPT

More digital concept work! this is all finished and meant to be rough so :)  oh so VERY slowly getting the hang of digital painting! also i cant draw men to save my life.  Here we have a male and female default starter avatar, male and female clothing styles and two sketches of birds wings that you can choose in the game to have for your avatar.

UPDATE THINGY

So at the moment i have been working on trying to get some concept work finished which i almost have and will post soon! I have also been working on my research which again i will post up soon! currently i am working on Project 3, 1000 word essay and we can choose the topic.  I am writing about game psychology and its serious effects from excessive game play.  Iv always loved psychology (even though i failed it at A level) and its an interesting topic to research.  I have found everything i need to research for it and i'm now starting to write it up :) with any luck i'll finish it today if i work like lightning!  Would also like to add that i have a personal art blog which i will post below.  It has my personal work as well as my university work so i can get feedback on every thing :) please do check it out!

Okay so here is the landscape iv been working on and this is now what it looks like.  Finding it so hard to do! im very happy with the sky so thats pretty much done just now working on a bit of the forest and mainly the tree.  The mountains are okay for now ill work on them some more later on.  Thought/ideas/feedback would be much appreciated!!

BA1 - Concept

Here are some images i pulled from google for ideas for the locations in the game

Hills and rivers
I love this image because of all the little pools of water and patches of grass.  I want this in this landscape along with long flat plains with hills in the back ground like in the image.  I want the area to be spring, midday and British landscape inspired location.

Mountains and lake
Here are many images for the Mountains and Lake idea.  The blue snowy mountains in the back ground with  a large expansive lake.  In the center of the lake is an island and situated on it is a giant tree (image below).  I am still deciding whether i want this location to be a foggy, sunrise, autumn/winter feel or a midday, tropical, summer feel.

Night Sky
For ths i want the setting to be twilight and your flying above a city and under a beautiful night sky where you can see the galaxy and milky way.

Waterfalls
I really want this location to have massive waterfalls falling into a deep cavern with around the massive waterfalls lots of little ones with different levels and pools.  Want this to be very tropical, midday, South American inspired.
